Football transfer rumours: Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United for £80m?

Cristiano Ronaldo says goodbye to his team-mates before his move back to Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in a good mood. Yeah, the Mill know what you are about to say. Look at how he acts on the pitch for goodness sake! Thumping his fists on the ground! Throwing his eyes to the heavens! Stamping his feet like a teenager who has been told that the chances of them going out on a school night are the same as those of David Cameron coming away from that chinwag with his underwear clean. But back to Ronaldo. Today he is especially happy. He’s walking around the bowels of the Bernabéu, enquiring how people’s days are going, laughing at the cleaners’ bad jokes and whistling Summer Holiday. Of course, Ronaldo didn’t pick that tune by accident. He really is going on a summer holiday. As soon as the season is over, he’ll do a week in Ibiza with the boys, a week in Madeira with his mum and sister and finish it all off with a few days in the Aran Islands studying the remains of the Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements. But back to Ronaldo and his happiness. He is particularly chirpy today because he has taken Embrace’s advice and decided to go back to what he knows, yes, Manchester United. It will cost the Glazers an eye-popping £80m but if it means they won’t have to have those protracted, platitudinous phone conversations with your man Van Gaal – Louis is the long-talker to beat all long-talkers – then it’ll be worth it.

Is this Cristiano Ronaldo's new girlfriend?

The FIFA Ballon d'Or winner is apparently dating Ms Huppenkothen, Mexico's football presenter, just months after confirming his split with Irina Shayk

Remember THAT Mexican TV presenter from the World Cup? Well, it appears Cristiano Ronaldo definitely does.

Social media went into meltdown during last summer's showpiece event when a photograph of Vanessa Huppenkothen wearing her nation's football shirt went viral across Twitter.

And now FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo is apparently dating the football presenter, just months after breaking up with Irina Shayk.

According to reports in Spain, the pair fell for each other when Vanessa recently visited the country on business.

Ronaldo, 30, split with Shayk in January after five years together, after which he said: "After dating for five years, my relationship with Irina Shayk has come to an end.

"We believed it would be best for both of us to take this step now. I wish Irina the greatest happiness."

'I'm not worried about Ronaldo,' insists Portugal boss Santos

The Real Madrid forward's attitude and demeanour have been questioned of late
but the Seleccao coach sees no cause for concern

'I'm not worried about Ronaldo,' insists Portugal boss Santos

Portugal boss Fernando Santos says he is not in the least bit worried about Cristiano Ronaldo's current mental state, insisting that the attacker remains as committed as ever to playing for his country.

Ronaldo's mindset has been the focus of much debate in recent weeks, on account of his break-up with former girlfriend Irina Shayk, as well as the controversy caused by his decision to go ahead with his 30th birthday party celebrations just hours after an embarrassing 4-0 derby defeat at Atleteico Madrid.

However, Santos is not in the least bit concerned about his star player, claiming he remains determined as ever to help Portugal win a major international honour.

"Cristiano Ronaldo does not worry me because all the players who come have a great motivation to play, to win titles," he told reporters on Monday.

"They have been close to winning titles but they have not succeeded yet. Players want to be in the finals and Cristiano Ronaldo thinks the same way.

"The problem would be if he could not come to join the national team."

Ronaldo, who has netted 52 times in 118 appearances for Portugal, played a key role in his country's run to the final of Euro 2004, where they were surprisingly beaten on home soil by Greece.

Kaka: I was better than Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo

The former AC Milan star remains proud to have beaten the duo to the Ballon d'Or award in the past, while also voicing his admiration for Jose Mourinho

Kaka has stressed he was a better player in his prime than Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

The Brazilian midfielder beat the illustrious duo to the Ballon d'Or and Fifa World Player of the Year awards in 2007 after an impressive season with AC Milan and he remains proud that he outdid both Messi and former team-mate Ronaldo.

"I won the Ballon d'Or and World Player of Year against Cristiano and Messi," Kaka told The Daily Mail.

"They win it every year now, but I could beat them back then. For me that's important because I had the best opponents. I'm proud when I see that."

The 32-year-old played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Madrid between 2009 and 2013 and he feels they helped improve each other's game during their time together at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"I definitely think we helped improve each other. It was great having him as a team-mate. I learnt a lot of things from him, every day I stuck with him and saw how he trained, how he played. It helped me a lot.

"We had a great relationship off the pitch in Spain. We still have a very good one. I'm so happy that he could win the Ballon d'Or at Real Madrid. He really deserved that. He is a special player."

Kaka endured a tough time under Jose Mourinho during his time at Madrid, as he was mainly warming the bench under the Portuguese, yet he has nothing but praise for the Chelsea manager.

"I am so pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Mourinho, he is one of the best coaches in the world."

The gifted midfielder recently joined Orlando City and he has insisted that he is not interested in a return to Europe, with friends like Oscar, Willian and Mesut Ozil trying to lure him to the Premier League.

"They joke with me saying, 'Come and play for Chelsea or Arsenal' but I am so happy here in Orlando."

'Ronaldo must face ban or fine for Clasico celebration'

LFP chief Javier Tebas believes the Real Madrid forward should be punished for
gesturing towards Barcelona fans after his goal in Sunday's Clasico

'Ronaldo must face ban or fine for Clasico celebration'

Cristiano Ronaldo's provocative celebration in the Clasico “must” see him face a fine or suspension, according to La Liga president Javier Tebas.

The Real Madrid forward taunted the Camp Nou crowd with a 'calm down' gesture after scoring the equaliser in Sunday's clash with Barcelona, although Jeremy Mathieu's opener was eventually added to by Luis Suarez.

The LFP chief is adamant players should not bate opposition fans in the way that Ronaldo did and says he will push for the Portugal international to be sanctioned.

"We have to be careful with provocative gestures by a player when he scores a goal or with any other provocation or conduct that could incite violence among spectators,” Tebas told reporters.

“It must be sanctioned, from a fine up to a suspension. We will look into it."

If the LFP decide to suspend Ronaldo for one match then he will be absent for their first clash after the international break at home to Granada, though a harsher ban could see him miss games with Rayo Vallecano and Eibar.

In addition to criticising Ronaldo, Tebas also questioned Real Madrid's reluctance to allow the Copa del Rey final between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu later this season.

“I wish it were the Bernabeu,” he added. “However, it is the decision of the club and we must respect their decision not to allow it, for whatever reason.”

Real Madrid were eliminated from the Copa del Rey at the last-16 stage by Atletico, who were subsequently dumped out of the competition by Barca in the quarter-finals.
